Main Function & Scope:

The Systems Engineer will maintain, improve, standardise, and harden Ventient Energy IT systems and infrastructure. This role will support business growth aspirations to achieve a scalable model through standardisation of the IT service and will focus on the following key areas; systems, infrastructure, compliance, and cyber security.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Improve business productivity by analysing existing systems to develop, propose and lead efficiency and automation-based projects
  • Project manage IT projects of varying size across the business (i.e., new system implementation)
  • Monitor and test application performance, identify possible improvements and work with suppliers to implement approved changes


  • Partner with functions across the business to deliver solutions that add value to the company
  • Manage, monitor and administrate the day-to-day operation of the Ventient Energy IT infrastructure including cloud architecture
  • Ensure the highest levels of availability and increase the reliability of the IT infrastructure
  • Standardise infrastructure based on internal standards
  • Migrate on premise solutions to the cloud and consider disaster recovery implications


  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e., ISO27001, NIS Directive)
  • Develop the Configuration Management Database System
  • Set the standard for new ways of working including championing best IT practices to maximise productivity across the business
  • Develop and improve process and procedures to drive the efficiency and scalability of the IT function

Cyber Security

  • Monitor and respond to alerts to potential security issues working with expert external partners as required
  • Support the development of an information security management system
  • Work with external experts to conduct annual cyber security audits

Relevant Experience


  • Highly experienced working in Cloud environments
  • System administration including knowledge of task automation using scripting
  • Networking knowledge including configuration of firewalls and routers
  • Experience of managing IT projects
  • Service configuration management including knowledge of CMDB software
  • Solid foundation of Office 365 administration and applications


  • DevOps experience advantageous
  • Palo Alto experience
  • VMWare
  • Dynamics 365 implementation and operation highly advantageous

Education & Qualifications


  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or equivalent
  • Demonstrable IT and business work experience with a broad range of exposure to various technical environments


  • Microsoft Cloud certifications highly desirable (Azure Administrator)
