Main Function & Scope


The Project Engineer is a key member of the Project Engineering function within the Engineering Department.  Led by the Engineering Project Manager, the principal responsibility of the Project Engineering function is to safely maximise organic growth by leading the planning, execution, and progress monitoring of Performance Improvement Initiatives and Engineering Life Extension works across the Ventient Energy portfolio. 

 

Utilising knowledge and experience of supporting and delivering engineering projects in the wind industry, the Project Engineer will provide engineering support throughout the project planning and execution phases and will have the opportunity to Project Manage projects.  The Project Engineer will work closely with the wider Engineering Department, HSQE, Asset Management, and third party MSA providers to lead the safe delivery of multiple projects to budget and schedule.


Role Responsibilities

1. Asset Performance

  • Manage the on-site delivery of Performance Improvement Initiatives (PII) to contribute to the delivery of top quartile lifetime performance (TQLP).
  • Work with the wider Engineering team to fully understand PII developments, associated work scopes and contractual requirements as projects progress through the development pipeline
  • Support and in some cases lead the planning workstream of assigned projects to develop a detailed work plan, identifying accurate budget and resource requirements
  • Support the Project Lead with business case approval
  • Play a key role in the Commercial workstream, supporting the negotiations to ensure the necessary contracts are placed on schedule and meet the work scope and resource requirements
  • Ensure that external providers are fully aware of all company and site-specific HSQE requirements and that all documentation is assessed and accepted by Asset Management in advance of works
  • Lead the project execution phase of assigned projects working with key stakeholders to ensure safe delivery to schedule and budget
  • Manage project documentation
  • Provide engineering support throughout the planning and execution phase to solve problems and mitigate risk
  • Maintain project delivery risk registers, actively mitigating/managing delivery risk
  • Conduct project progress monitoring and reporting
  • Conduct Lesson Learned sessions with key stakeholders following the completion of projects to appraise delivery performance and improve processes and procedures


2. Asset Life Extension

  • Maximise the lifetime value of assets through the planning and management of on-site engineering life extension analytical works.
  • Understand the Ventient Energy Engineering Life Extension Strategy and the associated processes of structural and reliability analytical assessments
  • Working with the Mechanical Integrity Engineer, country specific Asset Management, and specialist external providers interpret the scope of works and produce a detailed plan that is appropriately resourced for execution
  • Ensure that external providers are fully aware of all company and site-specific HSQE requirements and that all documentation is assessed and accepted by Asset Management in advance of any planned works
  • Deliver on-site works to agreed plan, ensuring regular progress reporting is in place for key stakeholders
  • Conduct Lesson Learned sessions with key stakeholders following the completion of projects to appraise delivery performance and improve processes and procedures


3. Asset Reliability

  • Contribute to the delivery of TQLP and downside Value at Risk protection (DVP) through the planning and delivery of Engineering defined asset inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Work with Mechanical Engineering and Asset Management to understand annual blade inspection and repair work scopes, producing a work plan, and ensuring delivery.
  • Work with Electrical Engineering and Asset Management to understand annual High Voltage inspection and maintenance work scopes, producing a work plan, and ensuring delivery.
  • Ensure that external providers are fully aware of all company and site-specific HSQE requirements and that all documentation is assessed and accepted by Asset Management in advance of any planned works


4. Inorganic Growth

Where potential acquisition targets include assets to be constructed, support business inorganic growth aspirations through the contribution of engineering support to enable competitive transaction bids and minimise value at risk.

  • Support the assessment of Turbine Supply Agreements and Balance of Plant Contracts highlighting any potential risks
  • For successful transactions that include asset construction, support the review of progress reporting working with appointed Technical Advisors to mitigate any technical risks
  • Support the efficient progression to asset Commercial Operation by ensuring construction contract scope completion, assets are appropriately inspected, and all issues captured and registered prior to takeover

  • Excellent knowledge of wind power plant design, operation, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of different models of wind power plant
  • Ability to understand complex engineering work scopes and translate this into a delivery plan

  • Working knowledge of UK Wind Turbine Safety Rules (WTSR) and Construction Design and Management (CDM)

Relevant Experience

Essential

  • Strong understanding and demonstrable experience of working with operational Wind Power Plant and the associated mechanical and electrical subsystems and components.

  • Wind power plant Asset Management experience
  • Experience of working with wind turbine blade contractors

Education & Qualifications

Essential 

  • Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering (other disciplines may be considered depending on relevant experience)

Desirable

  • Qualification in Project Management (PRINCE2, AMP)
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualified
