This is an interim role for 12 month fixed term  

Main Function & Scope:

The Systems Security Engineer will manage the IT backups and recovery systems, support the Ventient Energy Security and Infrastructure teams


This role will support business growth aspirations to achieve a scalable model through standardisation of the IT service and will focus on Compliance, and Cyber Security.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ticket/Task Management
      1. Troubleshoot incidents and track issues to resolution, escalating to Managed Service Providers and suppliers as appropriate
      2. Manage and ensure the backup of critical infrastructure and test recovery
      3. Provide weekly reports on backup statuses
  2. Security Infrastructure/System Management
      1. Complete scheduled maintenance tasks in a timely manner
      2. Manage, monitor, and administrate the day-to-day operation of the Ventient Energy Security infrastructure and identify potential improvements.
      3. Ensure the highest levels of availability and increase the reliability of the IT infrastructure
  3. Documentation & Compliance
      1. Develop and improve documentation, processes, and procedures to drive the efficiency and scalability of the IT function
      2. Ensure systems, processes and procedures are compliant with the IT Security Policy and industry best practices.
  4. Cyber Security
      1. Monitor and respond to alerts to potential security issues working with the IT Security team and expert external partners as required

  • Experience in the Energy Sector with SCADA Systems

Relevant Experience:


  • System administration and support
  • Network troubleshooting
  • IT Infrastructure experience
  • Security Conscience

Education and Qualifications:


  • Demonstrable experience in IT and business work, with a broad range of exposure to various technical environments
  • Experience working on DR and backups


  • Technology related certification 

Software Programmes:

  • Windows 10/ MS Office 365
  • Windows Servers (2012 R2, 2016, 2019)
  • Azure (desirable)

Travel Requirements:

Travel is not anticipated but the ability to travel to UK offices may be required ( Edinburgh/London offices )
